This happens in the very 21st century!!!!
The other day I was browsing through the net, specifically reading world news, and just when I though there was nothing that could surprise me anymore, this headline pops into my eyes "Girl, 12, married to a dog".
At first I though it was joke, but after reading the full article, I googled the headline and, to my surprise, a couple of different cases showed up. This practice is ancient and is still kind of common in the subcontinent of India and places nearby(I assume places where there are not too many schools, teachers, bookstores or cybercafes) and reasons for this go from protection from evil spirits to preventing the likeliness of being killed by a wild animal. Basically if you're a twelve year old Indian child and your parents decide that you should be protected from the devil or from a Bengal tiger, the solution is get you married to a dog or a cow!!!, chances are that if you're gonna get your ass beaten up by a gang or if a tiger decides to have you for lunch, the dog will protect you or the tiger will eat the cow instead of you.
This happens in the very 21st century where mankind walks in space, creates a particle accelerator machine, "reinvents" the Ponzi scheme and who knows what else. I think it would be cheaper to build more schools, to pay more teachers and donate books to poor people to prevent this kind of s@$t, but no We must allow this to happen so We can have more proof of how f%$@&d up "civilization" is.
